Reducing Parkinson’s Disease Symptoms by altering the gut microbiome: Exciting recent trial evidence

Dr Ann Liebert is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Sydney. She is also the Honorary Director of Photomolecular Research at the Australasian Research Institute at Sydney Adventist Group. In addition to extensive manipulative physiotherapy expertise, Ann completed her PhD in 2016 in the area of unresponsive cervicogenic headache and the mechanisms of laser treatment. Ann is currently involved with multicentre translational clinical trials in Parkinson’s Disease which will be completed in December 2019, involving photobiomodulation (light treatment). This research involves analysis of the microbiome and clinical outcome measures. These clinical trials complement concurrent animal model experimental trials at Sydney University in Parkinson’s Disease with particular emphasis on the role of the microbiome in disease progression.
